Descriptions

The c-Kit receptor protein-tyrosine kinase is tightly regulated in normal cells, whereas deregulated c-Kit kinase activity is implicated in the pathogenesis of human cancers. Crystal structures of c-Kit kinase reveal a manner in which the small juxtamembrane domain functions to maintain the kinase in an autoinhibited state. Insertion of this autoinhibitory domain into the cleft between the kinase N- and C-lobes flips the DFG motif into its off state, thereby inducing the activation loop to fold back over from its extended conformation in the active kinase where it binds as a pseudosubstrate at the kinase-active center.

4 GO annotations of cellular component

Name Definition
cilium A specialized eukaryotic organelle that consists of a filiform extrusion of the cell surface and of some cytoplasmic parts. Each cilium is largely bounded by an extrusion of the cytoplasmic (plasma) membrane, and contains a regular longitudinal array of microtubules, anchored to a basal body.
Golgi apparatus A membrane-bound cytoplasmic organelle of the endomembrane system that further processes the core oligosaccharides (e.g. N-glycans) added to proteins in the endoplasmic reticulum and packages them into membrane-bound vesicles. The Golgi apparatus operates at the intersection of the secretory, lysosomal, and endocytic pathways.
plasma membrane The membrane surrounding a cell that separates the cell from its external environment. It consists of a phospholipid bilayer and associated proteins.
receptor complex Any protein complex that undergoes combination with a hormone, neurotransmitter, drug or intracellular messenger to initiate a change in cell function.

3 GO annotations of molecular function

Name Definition
ATP binding Binding to ATP, adenosine 5'-triphosphate, a universally important coenzyme and enzyme regulator.
platelet-derived growth factor alpha-receptor activity Combining with platelet-derived growth factor isoform PDGF-AA, PDGF-BB or PDGF-AB to initiate a change in cell activity.
platelet-derived growth factor binding Binding to platelet-derived growth factor.

11 GO annotations of biological process

Name Definition
cardiac muscle progenitor cell migration to the midline involved in heart field formation The orderly movement of a myocardial progenitor cell toward the midline to form the heart field. Cardiac muscle progenitor cells are non-terminally differentiated, mesoderm-derived cells that are committed to differentiate into myocardial cells of the heart.
cardioblast cell midline fusion The attachment of cardiac progenitor cells to one another that contributes to the formation of the heart rudiment.
cerebellum vasculature development The process whose specific outcome is the progression of the vasculature of the cerebellum over time, from its formation to the mature structure.
chemotaxis The directed movement of a motile cell or organism, or the directed growth of a cell guided by a specific chemical concentration gradient. Movement may be towards a higher concentration (positive chemotaxis) or towards a lower concentration (negative chemotaxis).
embryonic cranial skeleton morphogenesis The process in which the anatomical structures of the cranial skeleton are generated and organized during the embryonic phase.
embryonic neurocranium morphogenesis The process in which the anatomical structures of the neurocranium are generated and organized during the embryonic phase. The neurocranium is the portion of the vertebrate skull surrounding the brain.
heart development The process whose specific outcome is the progression of the heart over time, from its formation to the mature structure. The heart is a hollow, muscular organ, which, by contracting rhythmically, keeps up the circulation of the blood.
neural crest cell migration The characteristic movement of cells from the dorsal ridge of the neural tube to a variety of locations in a vertebrate embryo.
phosphorylation The process of introducing a phosphate group into a molecule, usually with the formation of a phosphoric ester, a phosphoric anhydride or a phosphoric amide.
regulation of hematopoietic progenitor cell differentiation Any process that modulates the frequency, rate or extent of hematopoietic progenitor cell differentiation.
roof of mouth development The biological process whose specific outcome is the progression of the roof of the mouth from an initial condition to its mature state. This process begins with the formation of the structure and ends with the mature structure. The roof of the mouth is the partition that separates the nasal and oral cavities.
