Descriptions

CaMKII is one of the most important transducers of Ca2+signals in a variety of cell types and is highly conserved across animal species. The calmodulin-responsive regulatory segment forms a coiled coil structure that blocks peptide and ATP binding to the otherwise intrinsically active kinase domain.Ca2+/CaM removes the autoinhibitory regulatory segment located C-terminal to the kinase domain which releases the catalytic activity of the enzyme.

5 GO annotations of cellular component

Name Definition
cell-cell junction A cell junction that forms a connection between two or more cells of an organism; excludes direct cytoplasmic intercellular bridges, such as ring canals in insects.
neuromuscular junction The junction between the axon of a motor neuron and a muscle fiber. In response to the arrival of action potentials, the presynaptic button releases molecules of neurotransmitters into the synaptic cleft. These diffuse across the cleft and transmit the signal to the postsynaptic membrane of the muscle fiber, leading to a change in post-synaptic potential.
plasma membrane The membrane surrounding a cell that separates the cell from its external environment. It consists of a phospholipid bilayer and associated proteins.
synaptic membrane A specialized area of membrane on either the presynaptic or the postsynaptic side of a synapse, the junction between a nerve fiber of one neuron and another neuron or muscle fiber or glial cell.
type I terminal bouton Terminal inflated portion of the axon of a glutamatergic neuron, containing the specialized apparatus necessary to release neurotransmitters that will induce the contraction of muscle. The axon terminus is considered to be the whole region of thickening and the terminal bouton is a specialized region of it.

7 GO annotations of molecular function

Name Definition
ATP binding Binding to ATP, adenosine 5'-triphosphate, a universally important coenzyme and enzyme regulator.
calmodulin binding Binding to calmodulin, a calcium-binding protein with many roles, both in the calcium-bound and calcium-free states.
calmodulin-dependent protein kinase activity Calmodulin-dependent catalysis of the reactions
neurexin family protein binding Binding to a neurexin, a synaptic cell surface protein related to latrotoxin receptor, laminin and agrin. Neurexins act as cell recognition molecules at nerve terminals.
protein serine kinase activity Catalysis of the reactions
protein serine/threonine kinase activity Catalysis of the reactions
signaling receptor binding Binding to one or more specific sites on a receptor molecule, a macromolecule that undergoes combination with a hormone, neurotransmitter, drug or intracellular messenger to initiate a change in cell function.

21 GO annotations of biological process

Name Definition
adult locomotory behavior Locomotory behavior in a fully developed and mature organism.
adult walking behavior The behavior of an adult relating to the progression of that organism along the ground by the process of lifting and setting down each leg.
anesthesia-resistant memory The memory process that results in the formation of consolidated memory resistant to disruption of the patterned activity of the brain, without requiring protein synthesis.
behavioral response to ethanol Any process that results in a change in the behavior of an organism as a result of an ethanol stimulus.
border follicle cell migration The directed movement of a border cell through the nurse cells to reach the oocyte. An example of this is found in Drosophila melanogaster.
locomotion Self-propelled movement of a cell or organism from one location to another.
long-term memory The memory process that deals with the storage, retrieval and modification of information a long time (typically weeks, months or years) after receiving that information. This type of memory is typically dependent on gene transcription regulated by second messenger activation.
male courtship behavior The behavior of a male, for the purpose of attracting a sexual partner. An example of this process is found in Drosophila melanogaster.
medium-term memory The memory process that deals with the storage, retrieval and modification of information received at a time ago that is intermediate between that of short and long term memory (30min - 7hrs in Drosophila melanogaster).
neuromuscular synaptic transmission The process of synaptic transmission from a neuron to a muscle, across a synapse.
neurotransmitter secretion The regulated release of neurotransmitter from the presynapse into the synaptic cleft via calcium-regulated exocytosis during synaptic transmission.
phosphorylation The process of introducing a phosphate group into a molecule, usually with the formation of a phosphoric ester, a phosphoric anhydride or a phosphoric amide.
positive regulation of synaptic vesicle endocytosis Any process that activates or increases the frequency, rate or extent of synaptic vesicle endocytosis.
regulation of locomotion Any process that modulates the frequency, rate or extent of locomotion of a cell or organism.
regulation of neuromuscular synaptic transmission Any process that modulates the frequency, rate or extent of neuromuscular synaptic transmission.
regulation of neurotransmitter secretion Any process that modulates the frequency, rate or extent of the regulated release of a neurotransmitter from a cell.
regulation of synaptic assembly at neuromuscular junction Any process that modulates the frequency, rate or extent of synaptic assembly at neuromuscular junctions.
regulation of terminal button organization Any process that modulates the frequency, rate or extent of terminal button organization.
synaptic vesicle docking The initial (indirect) attachment of a synaptic vesicle membrane to the presynaptic active zone membrane, mediated by proteins protruding from the membrane and proteins of the presynaptic active zone cytoplasmic component. Synaptic vesicle tethering is the first step in this process.
synaptic vesicle endocytosis A vesicle-mediated transport process, in which the synaptic vesicle membrane constituents are retrieved from the presynaptic membrane on the axon terminal after neurotransmitter secretion by exocytosis. Synaptic vesicle endocytosis can occur via clathrin-dependent and clathrin-independent mechanisms.
synaptic vesicle targeting The process in which synaptic vesicles are directed to specific destination membranes, mediated by molecules at the vesicle membrane and target membrane surfaces.
