Descriptions

STIM2 plays a role in mediating store-operated Ca2+ entry (SOCE), a Ca2+ influx following depletion of intracellular Ca2+ stores and functions as a highly sensitive Ca2+ sensor in the endoplasmic reticulum which activates both store-operated and store-independent Ca2+-influx. EF-SAM in STIM2 regulates CRAC channels through a divergent balance between EF-hand Ca2+ affinity and SAM domain stability. The Ca2+-binding EF-hand and SAM domain are major contributors to the autoinhibition of oligomerization in each respective isoform.

6 GO annotations of cellular component

Name Definition
endomembrane system A collection of membranous structures involved in transport within the cell. The main components of the endomembrane system are endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi bodies, vesicles, cell membrane and nuclear envelope. Members of the endomembrane system pass materials through each other or though the use of vesicles.
endoplasmic reticulum The irregular network of unit membranes, visible only by electron microscopy, that occurs in the cytoplasm of many eukaryotic cells. The membranes form a complex meshwork of tubular channels, which are often expanded into slitlike cavities called cisternae. The ER takes two forms, rough (or granular), with ribosomes adhering to the outer surface, and smooth (with no ribosomes attached).
endoplasmic reticulum membrane The lipid bilayer surrounding the endoplasmic reticulum.
endoplasmic reticulum-plasma membrane contact site A contact site between the endoplasmic reticulum membrane and the plasma membrane, structured by bridging complexes.
membrane A lipid bilayer along with all the proteins and protein complexes embedded in it and attached to it.
plasma membrane The membrane surrounding a cell that separates the cell from its external environment. It consists of a phospholipid bilayer and associated proteins.

4 GO annotations of molecular function

Name Definition
calcium channel regulator activity Modulates the activity of a calcium channel.
calcium ion binding Binding to a calcium ion (Ca2+).
calcium-induced calcium release activity Enables transmembrane transfer of calcium ions from an intracellular store to the cytosol on induction by increased calcium concentration.
store-operated calcium channel activity A ligand-gated ion channel activity which transports calcium in response to emptying of intracellular calcium stores.

6 GO annotations of biological process

Name Definition
chaeta development The process whose specific outcome is the progression of a chaeta over time, from its formation to the mature structure. A chaeta is a sensory multicellular cuticular outgrowth of a specifically differentiated cell.
detection of calcium ion The series of events in which a calcium ion stimulus is received by a cell and converted into a molecular signal.
imaginal disc-derived wing morphogenesis The process in which the anatomical structures of the imaginal disc-derived wing are generated and organized. The wing is an appendage modified for flying.
intracellular calcium ion homeostasis A homeostatic process involved in the maintenance of a steady state level of calcium ions within a cell.
regulation of calcium ion transport Any process that modulates the frequency, rate or extent of the directed movement of calcium ions into, out of or within a cell, or between cells, by means of some agent such as a transporter or pore.
store-operated calcium entry A calcium ion entry mechanism in the plasma membrane activated by the depletion of calcium ion from the internal calcium ion store in the endoplasmic reticulum.
