Descriptions

Protein phosphatase 5 (PP5) dephosphorylates a myriad of proteins involved in different signaling pathways and is implicated in wide ranging cellular processes, including apoptosis, differentiation, DNA damage response, and cell survival. PP5 exhibits very low phosphatase activity, which can be stimulated >25-fold by proteolysis and binding of polyunsaturated fatty acids to its N-terminal tetratricopeptide repeat (TPR) domain. The TPR domain shields the active site from entry by protein substrates, and cleavage of the TPR domain or lipid binding to the TPR domain moves the TPR domain away from the active site, thereby activating PP5.
