Descriptions

The Gα subunits of heterotrimeric G proteins are GTP hydrolyases which, upon receptor activation, bind to GTP and regulate effector molecules. Gα-catalyzed hydrolysis of GTP to GDP releases the Gα-GDP product complex from effector and allows its sequestration by inhibitory Gβγ subunits. In Gia1-GppNHp complex, Gln204 of Gia1 interacts with nucleophilic water (Wnuc), participating directly in the Gia1-GTP ground state but must reorient to stabilize the transition state. RGS4, a member of the RGS family of G protein stimulatory factors, accelerates hydrolysis of GTP by Gia1 by destabilizing the ground-state conformation of Gln204. Insertion of Asn128 of RGS4 into the active site enhances catalysis by aiding in binding, orienting, and polarizing Wnuc in the pre-transition state complex. Asn128 of RGS4 displaces the side chain of Gln204 from its anti-catalytic position in the ground state, freeing it to participate in stabilization of the transition state.

3 GO annotations of cellular component

Name Definition
cytoplasm The contents of a cell excluding the plasma membrane and nucleus, but including other subcellular structures.
endoplasmic reticulum membrane The lipid bilayer surrounding the endoplasmic reticulum.
heterotrimeric G-protein complex Any of a family of heterotrimeric GTP-binding and hydrolyzing proteins; they belong to a superfamily of GTPases that includes monomeric proteins such as EF-Tu and RAS. Heterotrimeric G-proteins consist of three subunits; the alpha subunit contains the guanine nucleotide binding site and possesses GTPase activity; the beta and gamma subunits are tightly associated and function as a beta-gamma heterodimer; extrinsic plasma membrane proteins (cytoplasmic face) that function as a complex to transduce signals from G protein-coupled receptors to an effector protein.

8 GO annotations of molecular function

GTPase binding Binding to a GTPase, any enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of GTP.
GTPase inhibitor activity Stops, prevents or reduces the activity of any enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of GTP to GDP and orthophosphate.
metal ion binding Binding to a metal ion.

16 GO annotations of biological process

Name Definition
abscisic acid-activated signaling pathway The series of molecular signals generated by the binding of the plant hormone abscisic acid (ABA) to a receptor, and ending with modulation of a cellular process, e.g. transcription.
adenylate cyclase-modulating G protein-coupled receptor signaling pathway A G protein-coupled receptor signaling pathway in which the signal is transmitted via the activation or inhibition of adenylyl cyclase activity and a subsequent change in the intracellular concentration of cyclic AMP (cAMP).
blue light signaling pathway The series of molecular signals initiated upon sensing of blue light by photoreceptor molecule, at a wavelength between 400nm and 470nm.
gibberellic acid mediated signaling pathway The series of molecular signals mediated by the detection of gibberellic acid.
L-phenylalanine biosynthetic process The chemical reactions and pathways resulting in the formation of L-phenylalanine, the L-enantiomer of 2-amino-3-phenylpropanoic acid, i.e. (2S)-2-amino-3-phenylpropanoic acid.
positive regulation of abscisic acid-activated signaling pathway Any process that activates or increases the frequency, rate or extent of abscisic acid (ABA) signaling.
reactive oxygen species metabolic process The chemical reactions and pathways involving a reactive oxygen species, any molecules or ions formed by the incomplete one-electron reduction of oxygen. They contribute to the microbicidal activity of phagocytes, regulation of signal transduction and gene expression, and the oxidative damage to biopolymers.
regulation of cell population proliferation Any process that modulates the frequency, rate or extent of cell proliferation.
regulation of stomatal closure Any process that modulates the rate, frequency, or extent of stomatal closure. Stomatal closure is the process of closing of stomata, pores in the epidermis of leaves and stems bordered by two guard cells and serving in gas exchange.
response to glucose Any process that results in a change in state or activity of a cell or an organism (in terms of movement, secretion, enzyme production, gene expression, etc.) as a result of a glucose stimulus.
response to low fluence blue light stimulus by blue low-fluence system Any process that results in a change in state or activity of a cell or an organism (in terms of movement, secretion, enzyme production, gene expression, etc.) as a result of the detection of a low fluence blue light stimulus by the blue low-fluence system. Blue light is electromagnetic radiation with a wavelength of between 440 and 500nm. The blue low-fluence system responds to blue light at or below 0.1 micromols/m2. In certain species excitation of the blue low fluence system induces the transcription of a number of nuclear and plastid coded genes.
response to pheromone Any process that results in a change in state or activity of a cell or an organism (in terms of movement, secretion, enzyme production, gene expression, etc.) as a result of a pheromone stimulus.
seed germination The physiological and developmental changes that occur in a seed commencing with water uptake (imbibition) and terminating with the elongation of the embryonic axis.
sphingosine-1-phosphate receptor signaling pathway A G protein-coupled receptor signaling pathway initiated by sphingosine-1-phosphate binding to its receptor on the surface of a cell, and ending with the regulation of a downstream cellular process, e.g. transcription.
thylakoid membrane organization A process that is carried out at the cellular level which results in the assembly, arrangement of constituent parts, or disassembly of the thylakoid membrane.
tyrosine biosynthetic process The chemical reactions and pathways resulting in the formation of tyrosine, an aromatic amino acid, 2-amino-3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)propanoic acid.
