Descriptions

(Annotation based on sequence homology with P52293)
Kpna2 functions in nuclear protein import as an adapter protein and binds directly to substrates containing either a simple or bipartite NLS motif. Importin-alpha is shown to exist in a monomeric autoinhibited state. Association with importin-beta increases the affinity for NLSs. The truncation of N-terminal autoinhibitory region containing an importin-beta-binding domain elevated the affinity of Kpna2 to NLS peptides.

6 GO annotations of cellular component

Name Definition
cytoplasm The contents of a cell excluding the plasma membrane and nucleus, but including other subcellular structures.
female germ cell nucleus The nucleus of the female germ cell, a reproductive cell in females.
NLS-dependent protein nuclear import complex A dimer consisting of an alpha and a beta-subunit that imports proteins with an NLS into the nucleus through a nuclear pore.
nucleoplasm That part of the nuclear content other than the chromosomes or the nucleolus.
nucleus A membrane-bounded organelle of eukaryotic cells in which chromosomes are housed and replicated. In most cells, the nucleus contains all of the cell's chromosomes except the organellar chromosomes, and is the site of RNA synthesis and processing. In some species, or in specialized cell types, RNA metabolism or DNA replication may be absent.
spindle The array of microtubules and associated molecules that forms between opposite poles of a eukaryotic cell during mitosis or meiosis and serves to move the duplicated chromosomes apart.

2 GO annotations of molecular function

Name Definition
nuclear import signal receptor activity Combining with a nuclear import signal (NIS) on a cargo to be transported, to mediate transport of the cargo through the nuclear pore, from the cytoplasm to the nuclear lumen. The cargo can be either a RNA or a protein.
nuclear localization sequence binding Binding to a nuclear localization sequence, a specific peptide sequence that acts as a signal to localize the protein within the nucleus.

5 GO annotations of biological process

Name Definition
blastocyst development The process whose specific outcome is the progression of the blastocyst over time, from its formation to the mature structure. The mammalian blastocyst is a hollow ball of cells containing two cell types, the inner cell mass and the trophectoderm.
negative regulation of gene expression Any process that decreases the frequency, rate or extent of gene expression. Gene expression is the process in which a gene's coding sequence is converted into a mature gene product (protein or RNA).
NLS-bearing protein import into nucleus The directed movement of a protein bearing a nuclear localization signal (NLS) from the cytoplasm into the nucleus, across the nuclear envelope.
positive regulation of gene expression Any process that increases the frequency, rate or extent of gene expression. Gene expression is the process in which a gene's coding sequence is converted into a mature gene product (protein or RNA).
positive regulation of histone H3-K27 trimethylation Any process that activates or increases the frequency, rate or extent of histone H3-K27 trimethylation.
