Descriptions

Bacterial gasdermin (bGSDM) is a precursor of a pore-forming protein involved in defense against bacteriophages. Upon proteolytic cleavage within an interdomain linker, the pore-forming N-terminal domain is released from the inhibitory C-terminal domain. Subsequent cysteine palmitoylation strengthens membrane interactions and enhances pore formation. The size and architecture of these pores are highly diverse, showing structural variability among different bacterial species.
